Weigh in on options to Burnside Bridge earthquake ready!

Multnomah County is studying options for a Burnside crossing that will withstand a major earthquake. We have been talking with community members and a team of experts to better understand what should be considered. To catch you up on what we have learned and to find out what you think, we have launched an online briefing.

Here are just a few things that we have heard so far…

• “I would like to see world class pedestrian and cycle connections continue to remain one of the pillars of this project.”
• “Re-doing the bridge will impact an area that serves a large portion of the houseless population in Portland. That impact must be mitigated through careful advance planning and appropriate funding levels.”
• “Build it once, build it right.”

We have looked at over 100 river crossing options in the Feasibility Study and are now down to just over 20. Tell us what else we should consider as we evaluate options further. The online briefing is live through April 27!

What’s Next?
Each remaining option is being further evaluated for its performance in several key categories, including resiliency, equity, connectivity, and financial stewardship.

The short list of remaining options that pass through the final screening step will be available for public review this summer.  The options that remain after this step will be evaluated in more detail in the next phase of the project.
